The process
Collect organic waste
Food scraps, animal manure, crop residue and market waste are fed into the digester.
Anaerobic digestion
In an oxygen-free tank, micro-organisms break the waste down, releasing biogas.
Capture biogas
The biogas is captured and cleaned, ready for cooking, heating or generating power.
Harvest bio-fertiliser
The leftover digestate is a nutrient-rich, crop-ready bio-fertiliser.
The science, simplified
Anaerobic means oxygen-free
The whole process happens in a sealed tank, where specialised microbes thrive without air.
Biogas is mostly methane
The gas produced is largely methane — the same energy-rich gas found in natural gas.
Nothing goes to waste
